The Florida Turnpike, part of the Florida Department of Transportation, is currently conducting a Project Development & Environmental Study for several enhancements to the turnpike in Orange County. Included in the study is the addition of an interchange at Avalon Road in Winter Garden.
The Turnpike has identified a need to widen the segment of road from before the 408 interchange to SR 50. The goal of the study and improvements are to increase the capacity of the Turnpike to accommodate future traffic volumes, improve evacuation times, and planning consistency with MetroPlan Orlando.
The segment of Avalon Road is already part of an expansion project to widen the road in Winter Garden and Orange County, which would provide better access to an interchange at this location. Three designs have been proposed for the interchange; tight urban diamond, turbo roundabout, and diverging diamond. Based on the designs provided by FDOT, the footprint of all three designs have minor impact to the surrounding neighborhoods and Tucker Ranch. High-resolution drawings can be found at cwgdn.com.
