A tragic accident on Thursday, June 6, 2024, has left a 14-year-old girl dead after a tree fell onto the car in which she was riding. The incident occurred around 6:49 p.m. on Reams Road, just south of Summerlake Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports.
The accident involved a 2011 Lexus sedan traveling southbound on Reams Road, near the Fire Station. A tree located on the west shoulder of the road unexpectedly fell onto the vehicle’s roof. The 14-year-old girl, who was sitting in the rear right passenger seat, sustained fatal injuries and was transported to Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old woman from Orlando, and another passenger, a 12-year-old boy, also from Orlando, were unharmed in the accident. All individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. In the aftermath of the accident, Reams Road was blocked in both directions to facilitate the investigation and removal of debris.
The girl, Kayden Avera, was a student at Windermere High School. A fundraiser has been set up through AngeLink to assist the family.
The community of Horizon West mourns the loss of the young girl and extends its deepest sympathies to her family and friends during this difficult time.
