To address transportation projects in Orange County without a dedicated sales tax funding source, the Orange County Board of Commissioners passed a $100 million Accelerated Transportation Safety Program in 2023. The program provides $55 million for roadway lighting, sidewalks, and safety improvements, and provides $45 million to improve LYNX operational frequency and bus shelters.
Numerous projects for Horizon West have now been planned under this program and include street lighting, sidewalks, and roadway safety improvements. These projects will occur over the next several years:
2024 Improvements:
- Tattant Boulevard & Overstreet Road Safety Project
- Temporary Medians East and West of Bentonshire Ave on Overstreet Rd.
- Curve Warning Signage East of Bentonshire Ave on Overstreet Rd.
- Speed Feedback Signage.
- Street Lighting
- Overstreet Rd: Londale Bv to Ficquette Rd.
2025 Improvements:
- Seidel Road Safety Project
- Modify the existing Pedestrian Crossing at Seidel Rd. and Trinana Cir. to a raised crosswalk with speed table and RRFB with Blank Out “No Left Turn” sign.
- Street Lighting
- Tilden Rd: Winter Garden Vineland Rd to Avalon Rd
2026 Improvements:
- Tattant Boulevard & Overstreet Road Safety Project
- Permanent Raised Medians on Tattant Boulevard.
- Double-Lane Queue Line at Horizon West Middle School.
- Permanent Raised Medians and Street Lighting on Overstreet Road.
- Temporary Roundabout at Tattant Boulevard and Villa.
- Seidel Road Safety Project
- Consider modifying full median opening stop control intersection to a two-lane Roundabout at North Summerlake Groves.
- Street Lighting
- Avalon Rd: Osceola County Line to Egret Hammock Dr.
- Tiny Rd: Tilden Rd to Bridgewater Crossings Bv.
2027 Improvements:
- Street Lighting
- Seidel Rd: Summerlake Park Bv to Avalon Rd.
- Summerlake Park Bv: Black Quill Dr to Ficquette Rd.
- Sidewalk Improvement
- W Lake Butler Rd: Summerport Lane to East of Tildens Grove Blvd.
2028 Improvements:
- Street Lighting
- Overstreet Rd: Winter Garden Vineland Rd to Penkridge Ln
- Phil Ritson Wy: Southern Martin St to Summerlake Groves.
