A new stoplight at the intersection of Avalon Road and New Independence Parkway is scheduled to activate on August 2. The stoplight is currently powered-on and has been in yellow flashing mode since July 21.
The intersection has been the scene of multiple car accidents in the past, with one fatality occurring at the intersection in September 2021.
Residents have reported avoiding the intersection whenever possible, with many sharing that when leaving Hamlin to travel southbound on Avalon, they head down to Porter Road to make the left turn, which offers more visability.
This traffic improvement is part of the ongoing process to add traffic calming measures as Horizon West continues to grow and in preparation of future connections to Lake County. New Independence Parkway is planned to connect directly to Lake County in long-term plans.
