Work continues on the Lake County project to pave the entirety of Schofield Road from the Orange County line to SR 27. Schofield Road is a slow and bumpy dirt road used to access the popular Southern Hill Farms, but also provides a much needed connection between Clermont and Orange County. The Orange County segment of Schofield Road is already paved.

Currently the only alternatives are Hartwood Marsh Road to the north, which was reduced to 25 mph for most of the road, and 192 to 27 in the south, which is plagued by congestion during rush hour.

An additional connection, SR 516, will be a toll road connecting 429 to 27, and will be located just south of Schofield Road.

While the initial timeline indicated a Summer 2024 completion date, the contractor, Southland Construction, has multiple crews working on the project and is now expected to be completed in November 2023.
