Detours routing traffic around Schofield Road have been removed, allowing cars to fully utilize Schofield Road again as the paving project nears completion.
Half of the road, from US-27 to Cook Rd, is completely finished, while the stretch from Cook Rd to the Orange County line is mostly finished, with paving complete but drainage and lane striping not yet finished.
This stretch still features construction barrels and signs of active work, but was fully accessible when we drove on the road. Drivers using Schofield Road need to be advised that delays, detours, or closures are still possible until the project is completely finished.
Drivers heading East on Schofield Road should also consider utilizing 429 instead of Avalon Road at the termination point, as the intersection of Schofield Road and Avalon Road is notoriously dangerous and it’s common to see car accidents at this intersection. The speed limit of Avalon Road is 55mph at this intersection.
According to Lake County, the Schofield Road project is scheduled to be completed in November 2023.
