The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is gathering public feedback on a proposed expansion of State Road 429 (S.R. 429) between Seidel Road and Tilden Road. The project aims to increase capacity by widening the roadway from four lanes to six and introducing Flex Lanes, which would serve as additional traffic lanes during emergencies.
Currently in the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study phase, the initiative is evaluating potential environmental, social, and economic impacts, as well as considerations for right-of-way needs and construction costs. The study’s objectives include improving traffic flow, supporting regional growth, enhancing emergency response capabilities, and ensuring the roadway meets long-term transportation demands.
Population and development growth in West Orange and Lake counties have contributed to increased congestion along this stretch of S.R. 429, with traffic volumes rising significantly in recent years. The expansion is expected to address these challenges by providing additional capacity and improving overall mobility for daily commuters. However, the project does not include a northbound entry onto S.R. 429 from Seidel Road, meaning drivers will still need to use existing access points for northbound travel.
As part of the proposed improvements, the Seidel Road interchange will be widened to accommodate additional lanes, but there will be no new direct northbound entry ramp or southbound exit ramp. Traffic flow adjustments will be made in coordination with nearby projects, including enhancements to Schofield Road and the planned State Road 516 connection.
Noise walls are planned along certain sections of S.R. 429 to help mitigate increased traffic noise. Specifically, a noise barrier is proposed on the east side of S.R. 429 near Seidel Road, extending slightly northward as part of Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise project. Additional noise walls are proposed on both sides of S.R. 429 near residential areas, including Lakeside at Hamilton and north of Porter Road. These barriers will be evaluated further during the design phase to determine final placement and effectiveness in reducing noise levels for nearby communities.
Community members can participate in the public comment period, which remains open through February 28, 2025. Feedback can be submitted through at cfxway.com, allowing residents to share their perspectives on the proposed improvements.
By advancing this expansion, CFX aims to accommodate future transportation needs while improving safety and efficiency for travelers in the Horizon West area.
