A new shopping complex called Waterleigh Village will be anchored by a Publix Supermarket, according to a recent release. DR Horton, the developer, confirmed the addition of Publix for their property zoned for commercial users the outskirts of the luxury Waterleigh community to GrowthSpotter. Additional inline retail space will also be available in the complex, which will offer easy walking and biking to thousands of homes and apartments. Waterleigh Village is the town center for Hickory Nut Village (Village H) in Horizon West. The initial plans and zoning for this land was reviewed and approved in 2018 by the Orange County Board of Commissioners.
It is uncertain if the complex will be similar to the Publix plaza at Lakeside Village, which features a stand-alone Publix and then several buildings housing other businesses with a village feel, or more similar to Stoneybrook West, with a more linear model. An additional 383-unit apartment complex is also planned for Waterleigh Village, which will be on the west end of the plat, encompassing section 2E on the image above.
Waterleigh Village will be located along Avalon Road and Waterway Passage Drive. Publix will front Avalon Road, but we anticipate the primary entrance for Waterleigh Village to be through Waterway Passage, as this intersection is scheduled to receive a traffic light in Summer 2020 as part of the Avalon Road expansion.
There currently is no estimated opening for Publix or Waterleigh Village. However, in watching projects over the years, Publix stores seem to be faster to start construction and open compared to other businesses. With the fast growth of Hickory Nut Village (Village H) and nearby Village I, especially in Waterleigh Phase 2 and 3, this is a prime location for Publix.
