The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study to assess proposed capacity improvements on State Road (SR) 429, spanning from Seidel Road to Tilden Road in Orange County. The study focuses on widening this segment from four to six lanes and introducing wider median shoulders, known as Flex Lanes, designed to temporarily accommodate additional traffic during emergency situations.
The primary objectives of this initiative are to enhance regional mobility, align with local planning policies, promote connectivity, and improve emergency response capabilities. A preliminary noise study is also part of the PD&E process to assess potential auditory impacts on adjacent communities.
Public involvement is a crucial component of the study, and CFX has scheduled a public meeting on February 18, 2025, to present proposed plans and gather community feedback.

The meeting will be held in person at the Orange County National Golf Center, located at 16301 Phil Ritson Way in Winter Garden, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual meeting will also be available from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to register in advance at https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/400489857105877599.
These proposed improvements align with ongoing projects on SR 429, particularly the capacity enhancements between Tilden Road and SR 414, which began in January 2022. The current study aims to extend these enhancements further south, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in the Horizon West area.
