Commissioner Wilson announced on Wednesday, during the Surf Park Community Meeting, that a portable traffic signal is now in the works for the Schofield Rd and Avalon Rd intersection.
Orange County is now seeking three quotes from vendors to install the portable lights to address the immediate safety concerns at the intersection.
While no timeline was provided, County Staff indicated they are seeking the install ASAP.
The plan for portable lights comes only 4 weeks after our website reported no term-term improvements were planned for the intersection. After receiving intensive feedback from the community and Commissioner Wilson, Public Works changed course several days later and began data collection to explore options at the intersection.
According to FHP documents, there have been 9 car crashes at the intersection since Schofield Rd was connected to Lake County in September 2023.
