Orange County is moving forward with plans to improve the intersection of Schofield Road and Avalon Road, a critical junction in Horizon West that serves as a key connection to SR-429 and Lake County. This section of Avalon Road falls under a Road Network Agreement with local developers, who are responsible for constructing improvements along Avalon Road between Schofield Road and New Independence Parkway.
According to Orange County Public Works, the Concept Phase of the project was recently completed and accepted, clearing the way for the submission of a Final Design Phase proposal.
The proposal is expected to be submitted within the next few weeks, with work on the Final Design set to begin immediately upon approval.
The design team anticipates starting work by the end of January, with the Final Design projected for completion by the end of July. These milestones bring the project closer to installing a permanent stoplight, with construction and activation expected to be completed in the next 12 – 18 months.
The new stoplight is expected to significantly enhance traffic flow and improve safety for residents and commuters traveling through this rapidly developing area. As Horizon West continues to experience growth and increasing traffic demands, these infrastructure upgrades are essential for supporting the community’s long-term needs.
