Only days after the article “No Near-Term Improvements Coming To Avalon & Schofield Intersection” was published, Orange County Public Works has changed course regarding the Avalon Rd & Schofield Rd intersection.
After additional inquiries from Commissioner Wilson, the Public Works Manager confirmed on Thursday January 25 in an email to Commissioner Wilson that they have begun data collection to determine the viability of a multi-way stop until a full signal is installed. The department will also be exploring other options to improve safety at the intersection as well.

Prior to the publication of the original article last week, Orange County Public Works confirmed with HorizonWestInfo.com that no near-term improvements were planned.

The rapid turnaround continues to demonstrate the influence residents can hold when engaged on local issues. In Horizon West, over 100 residents spoke out against a self-storage facility at Waterleigh, which resulted in denial from the BCC. Elsewhere in Orange County, the BCC denied 1,800 homes at the Sustanee Development after a public hearing lasted until 1am, and the BCC rescinded support for the Split Oak Forest toll road project.
