Orange County officials have announced plans to expand Tiny Road to help alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety, particularly for those traveling near Bridgewater Middle School. The road currently has only one lane in each direction, making peak-hour traffic a challenge for residents and parents dropping off and picking up students.
The expansion will add additional lanes to improve traffic flow while incorporating three roundabouts at key intersections. The project also includes the addition of dedicated bike lanes and pedestrian paths to create a safer and more accessible route for cyclists and walkers.
A focus of the project is to enhance walkability and multimodal transportation in the area. The design is intended to better accommodate residents who rely on sidewalks and bike lanes, providing a safer alternative to driving.
Parents and local residents have long raised concerns about the heavy traffic around Bridgewater Middle School, particularly during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. Many believe that the roundabouts and lane expansions will help reduce backups and make daily commutes smoother.
The project will cover nearly two miles of Tiny Road, extending from Bridgewater Middle School to Tilden Road. While the plan has been approved by county commissioners, funding has not yet been secured to start construction, making the future timeline unknown. Officials have emphasized that this is just the beginning of the process, with more assessments needed before breaking ground.
With Horizon West experiencing rapid growth, the Tiny Road expansion is seen as an essential step toward improving infrastructure and addressing transportation challenges in the area.
