Orange County Board of County Commissioners has approved a new district map. Redistricting occurs every 10 years after the census, as districts need to remain balanced based on population changes.

Horizon West is in District 1 and currently represented by Commissioner Nicole Wilson, which remains unchanged on the new map. She was elected in 2020 and overwhelmingly beat incumbent Betsy VanderLey.
Based on the growth in Horizon West, District 1 lost representation of 40,000 residents as areas, such as Ocoee, were moved into other districts. With District 1, and especially Orange County, the district will quickly increase in population. This change also adheres to the “one person one vote” policy, ensuring elected officials all represent the same amount of people.
The next election effecting the Commission will be in November 2022 when Mayor Jerry Demings is up for re-election, and then in 2024 for District 1 Commissioner.
