In a closely watched race that had a 2 vote difference during the primary, incumbent Nicole Wilson secured re-election to the Orange County Board of County Commissioners for District 1, defeating challenger Austin Arthur. Wilson garnered 52.69% of the vote, totaling 56,139 ballots in her favor, while Arthur received 50,398 votes, or 47.31%, according to unofficial election results from the Supervisor of Elections.
At the precinct level, Wilson won in 72% of the precincts. She secured the largest victory in Precinct 124, located along International Drive, with 69% of the vote. This area is subject to the massive 262-acre Tuscana Orlando development that would include an additional 5,200 apartment units. While Wilson largely won in the Horizon West, International Drive, and Hunters Creek areas, Arthur won in the more established areas surrounding and within the City of Winter Garden and Town of Windermere.
Orange County voters also passed all ten proposed charter amendments. These amendments address various issues, including the continuation of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, the establishment of a Transportation Mobility Advisory Commission, and the requirement for a supermajority vote by the County Commission to approve the sale or changes in use of protected lands. The approval of these amendments reflects the community’s desire for sustainable development and effective governance.
Wilson’s re-election, along with the re-election of Mayra Uribe and election of Kelly Semrad, will provide the Board of Commissioners more voices to support environmental protections and development restrictions.
In other races, Carolina Amesty was defeated by Leonard Spencer for State Representative, Anne Douglas won over Kyle Goudy for School Board Member, and Monique Worrell beat out Andrew Bain for State Attorney.
