A PETA protest disrupted the Hamlin Starbucks on Friday, as protesters conducted a sit-in until OCSO Deputies arrived. According to comments on social media, protesters barged into the store, taped signs to the windows, handed out pamphlets, and chanted inside the store.
Protestors were calling on Starbucks to eliminate the $0.70 surcharge for vegan milk substitutes, such as soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk.
Video released by PETA shows a teenager appearing to throw an unknown liquid at a Deputy before being taken into custody. According to NBC Miami, the teen was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, and the boys mother and stepfather were also arrested on misdemeanor trespassing charges.
One Starbucks customer was sitting outside on the patio while the event unfolded and shared video with HorizonWestInfo.com.
As a reminder, in the event of an emergency that necessitates calling 911, do not hang up – your call will be answered.
