Matthew’s Hope Ministries, a charity in Winter Garden that serves the homeless, is extremely low on supplies due to the impact of COVID-19.
What is Matthew’s Hope Ministries?
Matthew’s Hope Ministries is a faith-based homeless outreach ministry serving the needs of those who have some connection to west Orange County. The ministry is a 501c3 non-profit and is completely independent of any government assistance. The ministry believes in offering a hand up, not just a handout, and is one of the closest charities to the Horizon West area.
What’s Happening Now?
COVID-19 has greatly impacted the normal operations of Matthew’s Hope. Their main office has been closed to ensure social distancing measures remain in effect and the outreach has shifted to mobile units to reach homeless. According to Click Orlando, the homeless population is at twice the risk of being infected with coronavirus compared to the rest of the population, making Matthew’s Hope work even more important now. However, with the stay-at-home order in place, their normal donations have slowed down, while at the same time they are serving a record number of people.
