On the evening of December 29, 2024, a fire broke out at Lakeside Village Park, located near Village Lake Road in Horizon West. The fire, which damaged trash cans in the park, prompted a response from the Orange County Fire Rescue Department (OCFRD) and Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). The fire was promptly extinguished by OCFRD no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the responsibility for investigating the cause of the fire was referred to multiple agencies. According to the Orange County Fire Marshal, OCFRD does not conduct fire origin or criminal investigations. These responsibilities typically fall under the State Fire Marshal’s Office or the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. HorizonWestInfo.com reached out to both organizations; however, the State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed it is not pursuing an investigation, and OCSO has also stated that it will not be investigating this incident.
As a result, the cause of the fire remains unknown, with no determination as to whether it was accidental or intentional.
