A public hearing has been scheduled for a proposed neighborhood along Reams Road and Fiquette Road. The neighborhood would comprise of 57 single-family homes, which has been further reduced from 74 units proposed to the Orange County Commission last year. In August 2019, 13 residents spoke out against the neighborhood with concerns about the development and impact to wetlands on the property according to the Orange Observer. The developer at the time stated they were willing to make adjustments to reduce the impact to wetlands, and the Commissioners agreed to send the request back to a lower committee for changes and further review.
The Orange County Board of County Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on May 5, 2020 at 2pm to review this request. Request PSP-16-12-421 is to subdivide 306.89 acres to construct 57 single-family detached homes.
Changes to the design of the neighborhood clearly show the reduction in homes. Houses will no longer back directly onto Reams Road and the deepest portions of the neighborhood is now a retention pond and park space, instead of houses. The intersection also includes accommodation for the upcoming expansions to Reams Road and Fiquette Road. Residents of Oasis Cove and The Preserve at Lakes of Windermere should continue to monitor this request closely, as the property abuts their communities.
Considering the size of the property and the concessions the developers have been to preserve the wildlife and nature on their property, we anticipate residents to have concerns about additional congestion, traffic flow, and school capacity with the development, but unlikely to have concerns with the development itself.
