The Orange County Board of Trustees hosted their board meeting this evening, and while the topic of library expansion was not an official agenda item, it remained prominent throughout the meeting. The only official update that was presented regarding future library locations was a quick statement that the Orange County Board of Commissioners and City of Orlando are exploring options to construct a branch at both Horizon West and Lake Nona. This proposal will be presented at a board meeting in July. While the Horizon West branch would be a stand-alone building, the leading proposal in Lake Nona would be to partner with the City of Orlando to add a library to a planned government building.
During the public comments section of the meeting, 3 residents from Lake Nona spoke in support of their library. No residents from Horizon West spoke.
The Orange County Library has entered into an agreement with Boyd Development to place a book drop-off to be installed at Hamlin. The drop-off will be installed around the end of summer or beginning of fall, depending on the timing of the delivery. A drop-box was installed at Lake Nona and is now receiving over 2,000 book drop-offs a month. Orange County residents can apply for a library card online and then start utilizing the home delivery program.
