Horizon West can look forward to a brand new library that is set to open in the spring of 2025. The library, which will be located at the Horizon West Regional Park, will feature a 20,000 sq ft modern design that incorporates many of the best practices that OCLS has developed over the years.

The new library will boast multiple meeting spaces that can be combined, providing ample room for various events and gatherings. Two 750 sq ft meeting rooms will be available along with one room 1,500 sq ft. All three spaces will be able to be combined to created an even larger space. In addition to the meeting spaces, there will be two study rooms, two training rooms, and a media lab for technology use. It is important to note that these spaces can only be rented out by a OCLS library member, which is free for Orange County residents. For those who need to charge their devices, there will be lots of outlets available and casual spaces throughout.

The library will be surrounded by Florida native landscaping, which will add to the library’s overall aesthetic appeal. It will also offer opportunities to connect to trails and park equestrian trails, providing visitors with easy access to outdoor recreational activities. The library will even have an outdoor stage, where performances and events can be held.

In addition, meeting rooms and restrooms will be accessible from the lobby, allowing them to be open and utilized outside of library hours. For nursing mothers, the library will have a lactation room, which will provide a comfortable and private space for breastfeeding.
As for sustainability, the library is planning to add solar and EV charging infrastructure in the upcoming design phase. Library design is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, which will then start the permitting process. Construction is set to start in Spring 2024 and will take approximately 12 months to complete. Horizon West Library is slated to open in Spring 2025.

In accordance with the 2006 lease agreement with Conserv II, Orange County must provide equestrian access for visitors, which is being incorporated into the library infrastructure plans. Additionally, although there is no official tenant, the infrastructure and parking lot have been designed to accommodate a YMCA or other recreational entity.

In conclusion, the new library in Horizon West will provide visitors with modern amenities, beautiful surroundings, and ample opportunities for both indoor and outdoor activities. With a design that incorporates years of library staff experience, the new library will be a welcome addition to the community.
