The new Publix grocery store in Hamlin is nearing completion and should be opening within the next several weeks. Photos taken below on August 14 indicate the exterior the building is practically complete and shelving are in place on the inside. The exterior of the building compliments the design of the Hamlin community, featuring a rustic Florida look that pays homage to the orange groves that used to occupy the area. A large mural of orange groves is on the outside of the building. A plethora of bike racks are also available outside Publix, providing ample space for the nearby communities who will be connected to the shopping center via bike paths and trails.
While the store is expected to open in the next several weeks, Publix has not announced an opening date. It is typical for the date to be announced closer to the opening date, as the store needs to ensure they will be able to open when promised. Construction of the store was delayed due to a fire that occurred at the building in February, 2017.((Crews battle fire at Publix construction site, OCFR says))
Additional stores and restaurants are also being built in the same plaza as Publix. While no stores have been officially announced, Orange County Permits show Le Pup Store and offices for Boyd Development will occupy the new space.
