Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida Division of Emergency Management is urging residents to create a hurricane supply kit to last 7-days. In prior years, it was only recommended for Floridians to have a 3-day emergency disaster supply kit.
The Governor stressed the importance and responsibility of individuals to prepare their households, create a plan, and have supplies to last seven days.
General tips provided include:
- Every household should have a fully stocked disaster supply kit with at least seven days of items for each household member, with special consideration of children, pets and seniors.
- Trim trees and shrubs now to allow high winds to blow through the branches, reducing broken or falling limbs.
- Keep copies of important family records and other documents in a safe deposit box or other waterproof location
- Keep vehicles at least with half a tank of gas or halfway charged.
Residents are also encouraged to take advantage of a state sales tax holiday, now through June 14, on emergency preparedness items.
