Commissioner Nicole Wilson and the Orange County Citizen Corps Council will host the first-ever District 1 Safety Expo in Horizon West on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Horizon High School. The free event is designed to connect residents with public safety resources through interactive activities, live demonstrations, and community engagement.
The expo will feature live fire rescue demonstrations, family-friendly activities, food trucks, giveaways, and booths from local vendors and public service organizations. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet first responders, learn about traffic and pedestrian safety, and explore services supporting physical and mental health.
“I truly believe that the core function of local government is to provide for the health, safety, and welfare of our residents,” Wilson said in a statement. “From traffic safety to physical and mental health, we have crossed paths with so many county resources and local organizations that exist to serve the public. The District 1 Safety Expo is a great way to get all of these resources under one roof while keeping things fun and engaging for the whole family!”
The event will take place at Horizon High School, located at 10393 Seidel Road in Winter Garden. A special fire rescue demonstration is scheduled for noon.

The expo is part of an ongoing effort to improve community safety and awareness in Horizon West, a fast-growing area of Orange County where transportation, emergency response, and public health resources are in increasing demand. With support from various partners including OCPS, FDOT, BikeWalk Central Florida, Orlando Health, and local advocacy groups, the event aims to foster stronger connections between residents and the services designed to protect and support them.
