Final Design and Right-of-Way Acquisition Underway
Orange County continues to work on the final design phase for the widening of Ficquette Road from south of the Reams Road/Summerlake Park Boulevard intersection to south of the Ingelnook Drive intersection. This phase of the project includes the roadway engineering and preparation of final construction plans and documents. The right-of-way acquisition phase started in Summer 2022. The construction phase is anticipated to commence early 2025. A third newsletter will be distributed when the project advertises for construction bids.
Project Details
The proposed design includes two 11-foot-wide travel lanes in each direction separated by a raised, grassed median. A shared-use trail will be provided on the west side and a fivefoot concrete sidewalk will be provided along the east side. The project will include realigning the existing S-curves at the Ficquette Road/Reams Road/Summerlake Park Boulevard intersection. Intersection improvements will also be provided at Old Thicket Trace, New Independence Parkway and the Deputy Scott Pine Community Park entrance. New stormwater retention ponds will be required. Additional right-of-way is needed for the roadway and stormwater improvements. Lighting and landscaping will be provided along the roadway corridor.
