Residents of Horizon West have long wondered about the feasibility of a full interchange with SR 429 at Seidel Road, as it currently only includes ramps along the south side of Seidel Road. HorizonWestInfo’s team has conducted investigative research to identify the past decisions and future options for this intersection.
In the past, the Central Florida Parkway Authority (CFX), attempted to purchase the necessary land to the north of Seidel Road to accommodate on-ramps, but was unable to reach an agreement with developers. To the east of 429, a Toll Brother’s community is now fully built out, and a future apartment complex (Elysian) is planned to the west.
The lack of a full interchange comes as 429 experiences tremendous growth and expansion. CFX is actively expanding 429 to 4-lanes in each direction between Tilden Road and SR 414, and the Florida Department of Transportation, who manages 429 south of Seidel Road, has already held public meetings regarding the widening of 429 from I-4 to Seidel. Additionally, FDOT is exploring connecting 429 further south to Poinciana Parkway.
Looking to the future, CFX will be expanding SR 429 from a current 4-lane highway (2 lanes in each direction), to a 8-lane highway (4 lanes in each direction). CFX has confirmed to HorizonWestInfo.com that future project studies for the 429 expansion will not include new on-ramps at Seidel Road due to the extensive existing and planned development at the site.
Residents living in this area will need to continue utilizing intersections at Schofield Road to the north or Western Way to the south in lieu of these ramps.
