Station 44 was opened in 2019 to meet the needs from the rapid growth in Horizon West and opened with minimal budget, operating out of portable buildings on land leased from Orlando Health. Additional Horizon West Fire Stations are planned at Avalon Road & New Hartzog Road, and Avalon Road & Lake Ingram Road.

Plans show the station will be oriented north to south, requiring engines to turn out of the garage before turning onto Reams Roads. A small parking lot is located at the front of the fire house, with fenced parking for personnel.
