CFTOD is exploring a $100 million bond to continue roadway infrastructure improvements throughout the district. This bond would include the third and final phase of World Drive improvements along with 2 bridge upgrades.
Significant improvements are also planned for Western Way. Funding through the bond would expand Western Way to a 6-lane road, 3-lanes in each direction. This expansion would help accommodate the already over-burdened road that will only continue to see increased traffic. This fall, construction will start on the Flemings Road connection to Sawgrass Bay Blvd, which will give a direct connection on Western Way to SR 27. Additionally, the new SR 516 toll road will connect 429 to SR 27, and 429 will be extended to connect to Poinciana Parkway.

An interchange improvement is also planned at Western Way and Lake Buena Vista Dr, which is currently another point of congestion for Horizon West residents and others. Preliminary plans indicate Buena Vista Drive will utilize an overpass over Western Way, with new onramps created to move traffic more efficiently in each direction.

Including in the hearing was approval of a $3 million project to resurface approximately 1 mile of Hartzog Road, north of Western Way. The Board approved this project and it is expected to start later this year.
CFTOD Staff will provide results of the bond imitative in October of 2024.
