The long-awaited traffic signal at Avalon Road and Hartzog Road in Horizon West is nearing activation. According to Orange County’s Public Works Department, the process is moving forward, but a few steps remain before the light becomes fully operational.
While the actual lights are in place, the power meter has yet to be installed to provide electricity to the light. The meter is expected to be in place within the next week. Once the meter is installed and power is available, the signal contractor plans to set the light to a flashing mode later next week. This flashing period is a required safety measure to alert drivers of the new traffic pattern.
If all goes according to plan, the signal will transition to full cycling operation one to two weeks after the flashing period begins. This places the anticipated full activation date in mid-February.
Horizon West residents have been eagerly awaiting this signal to address safety concerns and improve traffic flow at this busy intersection. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available, including when the light enters the flashing phase and when it becomes fully operational.
