A controversial development across from Windermere High School has been approved by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners. In 2020, the developer initially requested to build a 375-unit 5-story apartment complex on 34 acres of land.
After receiving extensive opposition from local residents, especially from the adjacent neighborhood that would now backup to a 5-story building, the developer hosted several community meetings to discuss concerns. The developer continued to revise their plans to minimize impacts.
In addition to transitioning to a full single-family home development, the developer is also preserving the large oak tree currently on the property and providing a buffer zone between the existing neighborhood. The development will consist of 100 single family units; 93 townhomes and 17 single family detached homes.

A local resident attended the BCC meeting, speaking on behalf of the local residents and the Summerport HOA, voiced his support of the plan and thanked both District 1 Commissioner Nicole Wilson and the developer for their work on the development. The plan passed with unanimous support from the BCC.
