A new cell phone tower is being proposed and reviewed by the Orange County Planning & Zoning Commission. The proposal is to rezone an existing landfill along Schofield Rd between Avalon and 429 to construct a maximum 140-foot tall cell tower. The tower would be located on the existing buffer zone of the landfill property, and not on the landfill itself.
The property is currently zone A-1 (Citrus Rural District), and is proposed to PD (Planned Development District). The landfill sits within Horizon West and the Town Center Village, which requires the change to Planned Development according to the Future Land Use Map. The map designates the landfill as Open Space, meaning no construction will occur on top of the landfill.
This request will be reviewed by the Orange County Planning & Zoning Commission on June 5 at their 9am meeting.
